On Sunday, June 22, a five-alarm fire in the University Heights section of the Bronx damaged three homes. The fire started on the first floor of a multi-family house and spread to other homes located between Webb Avenue and West 190th Street. Fourteen people were treated at the scene or transported to the hospital for their injuries. The victims included two residents.
Nearly 200 fire and EMS personnel arrived on the scene to help put out the flames. Fire officials said the blaze involved lithium batteries, but the cause remains under investigation. Red Cross personnel were sent to the scene to help residents displaced by the fire.
Other Recent Bronx Fires
A massive four-alarm fire on June 16 at an apartment complex at 3030 Heath Avenue in the Bronx caused extensive damage to six to eight units, according to the New York City Fire Department. Heavy flames engulfed the complex’s top floor and the space above the ceiling and under the roof. Two firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
In a third incident in the Bronx a week earlier, firefighters battled a 5-alarm fire, working to search and remove people from the building. According to the Fire Department, all the apartments on the building’s top floor were destroyed. Six people were injured, including firefighters.
