A three-alarm fire on Wednesday at 6:00 am in the Tremont section of the Bronx killed one person, with another individual in critical condition at Saint Barnabas Hospital.

The fire at East 180 th Street and Anthony Avenue, near E. Burnside Avenue, impacted two buildings, including a Buddhist temple. According to Fire Rescue 1, aerial footage of the blaze shows one of
the buildings completely consumed in flames. “This was a very dangerous operation for our firefighters,” FDNY Chief of Department John Esposito said at the scene.

A blocked hydrant impeded the firefighters’ efforts to extinguish the fire. This is the second time a hydrant was blocked this week because of a parked car. More than 130 firefighters and EMS personnel took about two hours to bring the massive fire under control.

FDNY Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze. The city's Department of Buildings was on the scene assessing the structural stability of the destroyed structures, while the Red Cross assisted displaced residents.
